The Cruciverbalizer is a toolkit for crossword generation, dissemination and display, and for assisting in solving crosswords. It incorporates the Crossword File Format (which is being developed) for distributing crossword puzzles across the Internet and exchanging puzzles between different crossword programs.

The Crossword File Format will be ASCII text and will contain all the elements necessary for composing, printing, displaying, and solving a crossword puzzle.
